Full Course

The tuition fee for 2010 -2011 is 1672 Euro for Dutch and EU/EER students per academic year. (In addition to the EU member countries, the EER also includes Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.) Starting with September 2010, the tuition for all students from countries that are not part of the EU/EERĀ  is now 8000 Euro per academic year. Unfortunately, we are neither able to change this, nor can we grant tuition waivers. We advise all prospective non-EU/non-EER students to apply one year in advance. This will allow us to propose you for a Huygens HSP stipend by the Dutch government that covers tuition and living expenses. (It should be noted that this stipend is only granted for academic excellence, and unfortunately only to a limited number of foreign students in the Netherlands. We can not guarantee the success of any stipend application.)

Dutch students under 27 who join the Piet Zwart Institute immediately after completing their undergraduate education are eligible for a student grant from the Dutch Ministry of Education (studiefinanciering). Dutch students who do not satisfy the requirements for a student grant from the Dutch government may undertake the course with support through WWIK.

More information can be obtained through the Willem de Kooning Academy admissions office or through student counsellor Karin Hillen, telephone 31 (0)10 241 47 50.

Foreign students are expected to be self-supporting. They may apply for grants through the Ministry of Culture and/or Education in their home country. They are also advised to enquire about funding possibilities offered through the so-called Cultural Treaties at the Dutch Embassy in their home country.

Project participants

It is possible to attend a Thematic Project for one trimester as a guest participant. The tuition fee for an individual trimester project is 1000,- Euro and covers the full 12 course days (11-18h) plus tutorial support and feedback on practical work and essay writing. Project participation is principally open to anyone – after an informal review of a prospective participant’s motivation and portfolio -, and does not entail theĀ  status of an enrolled student.

International participants may apply for grants in their home country. Dutch students may also try to apply for grants through cultural funds such as their local CBK.
