Vanessa Tuitel (1980) is the coordinator of the Piet Zwart Institute. After finishing the Graphic School in Utrecht, she studied Fine Art at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. During her third academic year, Vanessa started working at Expodium, a platform for new art in Utrecht.
Vanessa loves the future. ‘Vinex’ neighbourhoods under construction, cascos, roads… stuff that comes into being and that sets a new direction. She believes the present is a construction that prepares the future. She translates this ‘perpetuum mobile’ (that concerns us all) into installations. The aesthetics of tarmac and road signs lead us to uncertain, yet attractive times.
In 2006 Vanessa graduated from the Royal Academy of Art with several works:

Documenta 11
(100 x 70, oil on canvas )

Groen licht
(installation with traffic facilities)

Asfalt Project
(installation with asphalt and traffic facilities)

Vinex Project (part one)
(installation with paper, plastic and card board)

Vinex Project (part two)
(installation with paper, plastic, table and filing cabinet)

Metro 2
(digital image)
After her graduation, Vanessa worked as a production assistant for several artists on exhibitions and projects, such as the Skulptur Projekte Munster in Germany.
In 2008 she started working at Casco, Office for Art Design and Theory in Utrecht. After working for a period of time with several cultural institutions and artists, Vanessa found that working amidst young, international artists has always appealed to her because of the dynamism and aspirations they represent.
Since 2009 Vanessa is one of the staff members of the Piet Zwart Institute.
