Ruth Baumeister is an architect, researcher and writer. After her study of architecture in Munich and New York City, she worked for Daniel Libeskind in Berlin. After several years of practice, she did a postgraduate in architecture theory and history at the ETH Zürich. She is currently teaching at  Piet Zwart Institute, Willem de Kooning Academy, the Technical University in Delft and holds a position as a Visiting Professor at the University of Cagliari, Italy. She has also taught at the Bauhaus University Weimar, The Fontys Academy in Tilburg and the Technical University in Eindhoven. As an independent consultant for the 5th Research Framework she worked for the European Commission and conducted international, large scale research cooperation herself.

Her research interests fall broadly into two fields. In history and theory, they are the postwar avant-gardes in art and architecture and in practice, the application of artistic strategies as a tool for design. In cooperation with the University of Cagliari, she is currently building up “Creative City”, an international research and design platform. She has lectured in various international institutions, e.g. Danish Center for Architecture, Copenhagen, Munich University of Technology, Kunsthalle Kiel. She published numerous articles internationally, edited magazines and is the co-editor (with Sang Lee) of: “The Domestic and the Foreign in Architecture”, 010 Publishers, Rotterdam, 2007.
