Anselm Franke is currently artistic director of Extra-City Center for Contemporary Art in Antwerp and was co-curator, together with Hila Peleg, of Manifesta7 in Trento as well as the 1st Brussels Biennale in 2008. Franke is a PhD candidate for Visual Culture/Center for Research Architecture at Goldsmiths College in London. From 2001-2006 he was curator at Berlin’s KW Institute for Contemporary Art where he co-organised events such as the congress “Suchbilder” and realised exhibitions such as the series “Image Archives” and “Productions”, “Territories”, “The Imaginary Number”, among various other projects and solo-exhibitions. A long-term collaborator with Hebbel am Ufer in Berlin, Franke co-curated its opening festival “Art and Crime” as well as projects such as “KIOSK for Useful Knowledge” and “Clinic – A Pathology of Gesture”. He is also a regular collaborator of the Berlinale Forum Expanded. Anselm Franke has widely lectured at institutions such as the IUAV Venice, the Bezalel Academy Tel Aviv, the University of the Witswaterand, Johannesburg, Fondazione Adriano Olivetti, Rome, the Bauhaus Dessau, The House of the World Cultures, Berlin, among others.
