Yael Davids (1968, Kibbutz Tsuba) lives and works in Amsterdam. With a background in both performance and fine art, her practice is concerned with an interaction between the human form and man-made structures and juxtaposes the expressive qualities of the one with framing ability of the other. Her ambitious performances often involve large numbers of people working collectively to manipulate and move modular structures designed by the artist to produce dynamic compositions with emotional and sometimes erotic overtones. Herwork has been seen as part of The 2nd Herzliya Biennial, Herzliya, Tel Aviv (2009), Here We Dance, Tate Modern, London (2008), Memorial to the lraq War, ICA, London (2007), Sinopale – 1st Biennial of contemporary art of Sinop (2006), Performance section of the Venice Biennial (2005) lf l Can’t Dance l Don’t Want To Be Part Of Your Revolution, Utrecht, Den Bosch and Leiden (2005) and Platform Garanti, lstanbul (2004). Currently Yael Davids work is included in the Sheffield Biennial Art Sheffield. Later this year she will show with the lf l Can’t Dance… edition Masquerade, PlayVan Abbe, Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven (NL) and present the solo exhibition Picture This in Bristol.
