Rachel Carey, “Wandering” Acrylic and Toothpaste on paper – 2006

Carey’s work develops universes that are often bizarre and out of the ordinary for they come across as both absurd and yet reflective. These strange, “other”, worlds are constructed by means of associations with normally considered banal objects; where culturally specific elements are displaced and found in incongruous situations that disrupt the original sense. She uses these developed universes to explore current cultural mores and to investigate reactionary human behavior.

Selected recent group exhibitions from 2007 include: Mais Oui! Invited by the Collective LX5 at the art space Paul Wirth, Luxembourg (LX); Standpunkt , KunstSilo, Sarrebruck (DL); Performance for La Journée d’Art Contemporaine, Metz (FR); Video Art Festival Octobre Rouge, invited by CIGL and Les Yeux de l’Ouïe, Luxembourg (LX) and a group show of drawings for Double Face at the Esplanade Gallery, Metz (FR).

Current shows and projects for 2008 include: a solo performance piece Dear Ewe and a video at the Schouwberg Theater in participation with the project “A Perfect Society”, Rotterdam (NL); Invited by Konschtkëscht (LX) for diffusion of an art video on their Internet site; Nominated to exhibit at Mulhouse 08 in Mulhouse (FR).
