Born in 1980, Spain: currently living and working in Rotterdam and Barcelona.
Isa Andreu has an interdisciplinary background: Documentary Film making, Art Critical and Communication, Humanities sciences and Costume and Theatre Design.
Currently, she is a student at the Master Fine Arts of Piet Zwart institute.
Her current work is interested in the exploration of “social art”. Which is the relation between society and an artist with a “social willingness”? How ever can art touch “the real”? Which is the role of the artist as a “worker”, (a social worker)? Which are the implications and misuse of an art willing to have a social relevance? What does it mean to use art as a platform for critical discourse?
The themes in her work are identity (collective and individual rituals and symbols), flexible capitalism structures and economy and its effects in societies – migration – belonging -displacement.
In her work she wants to explore the tension created between “the real” (the system, society rules, working economy) and her inner world of fantasy, subjectivity and activism. And see how these two aspects can be interrelated and negotiated in each particular project.
Isa Andreu practice is concerned with the exploration of the borderline between documentary work and fiction. Continually interested in dismounting her findings and question them again.
She is also very interested in exploring collective and participatory processes of sharing of experience and knowledge.
