"In Orbit", pre-production still, 2010
From a simple origami construction to an unintelligible explanation of complex psychoanalytic formulae; Priscila’s practice hovers at the limits of what is scientifically believable, often crossing into absurdity as it exposes the inherent futility of such constructions by applying them to daily routines.
Her practice becomes visible through two main modes of address: a mode in which knowledge is rendered absurd through hyper-rational proliferation of information; and the demonstrative mode in which things are rendered believable through the gesture of display.
Starting from basic principles and moving towards complexity, Priscila engages with the idea of understanding of one’s self as the first step towards unraveling the wonders of the cosmos. She creates systems of production for herself; methods of classification and organization, that enable an examination of the vastly differing approaches used in representational cosmologies. Appropriating this abstract iconography, Priscila’s work exposes the idiosyncratic joy and fascination she sees within scientific research, while at the same time remaining conscious of the implications of subjectivity.
